Global warming taking earth back to dinosaur era
Global warming over the coming century could mean a return of temperatures last seen in the age of the dinosaur and lead to the extinction of up to half of all species, a scientist said on Thursday.

Not only will carbon dioxide levels be at the highest levels for 24 million years, but global average temperatures will be higher than for up to 10 million years, said Chris Thomas of the University of York.

Between 10 and 99 percent of species will be faced with atmospheric conditions that last existed before they evolved, and as a result from 10-50 percent of them could disappear.

"We may very well already be on the breaking edge of a wave of mass extinctions," Thomas told the annual meeting of the British Association for the Advancement of Science.

2. I'll bet there's lots of oil and coal in Antarctica.
It's God's Will that the ice should melt and we exploit it. We can move all those people living on the coasts, no problem.

(Please, please, I hope I don't need a sarcasm tag here...)

4. ..........and we'll all get so rich from exploitation of Antarctica's oil
EVERYONE will be able to have and run A/C all day and night. No problem there either.

Sort of like a chicken in every pot........

Except this time maybe it's a frog.

3. Off the Coast of Southern Georgia..
The shrimp boats are still numerous, but the catch of choice is now jellyfish...which are processed just up the coast in the town of Darian. Why? Because there are sooooooooo many of them now and are more profitable than searching for the dwindling shrimp population..and are sold to oriental countries that value them as a food delicacy. Over time, the coastal population runoff into the ocean coupled with warming waters has created an ocean environment that is low in oxygen and rapidly turning into a sort of prehistoric sludge that results in a kill off of fish and shrimp, but is favorable to jelly fish. Around here, they call it the jellyfish invasion. The shrimp boats are still pretty to watch from the shore, but have also become a sad sign of what we have done to our earth.

5. Oh, this is wonderful news! When all the other sea life dies off, we
will have PLENTY of jellyfish to eat!

Do tell.....how does one prepare and eat jellyfish, and what exactly does it taste like??? Fish-flavored goo?

6. I dont like to think about it, but
I heard that after it is processed, it is sent to oriental countries where it is basically used..after being cooked and cut up..as a yummy suppliment to salads....ohhhhhhhhhhhhh! And yes....one day in the not too distant future, it is more likely than not that parents will say to their children.."Eat your jellyfish"!

8. PBJF Sandwiches! yum!
I know this is besides your main point which is well taken (the impact on the local ocean environment) but I never even imagined that Jellyfish were edible, that's pretty wild. I usually pride myself on being willing to try anything other humans eat but I think I'd pass on the jellyfish delicacy. ;)
