The Demise of a Techno-fix Psyche
I would describe myself as a recovering energy engineer. Technology has been an integral part of my life. At one time I had viewed advancing technology as the answer to all of our problems and the only tool necessary in improving our relationship with the natural world. My own personal journey over the last several years has changed that.

Enough said..

1. Leaving the Cargo Cult, eh?
I feel the same way. I grew up with a real belief in the power of technology to address humanity's problems. I was one of those who thought "If we can put a man on the moon" that we could solve other, seemingly intractable problems.

Now I realize I was just a member of a cargo cult.

the members of the Secret Order of Masters of Business Administration (inculcated in Graduate Schools of Business Administration) took over American industry with their concepts of "manage everything as if it is a real time, instantaneous stock portfolio" and diverted the quest from "bettering society" to a quest for "enhancing instantaneous, real time "Shareholder Value"."

Witness NAFTA, CAFTA, the demise of trade unions, and our MBA president and MBA secretary of defense.

As to Graduate Schools of Business and MBA curricula:

  1. For engineers - MBA degrees ruin more good engineers.
  2. For Arts and Science graduates - ruin more good public school teachers.
  3. For Business graduates - they're a lost generation anyway.

4. Yeah, a luddite that did R&D for the textile industry and is an engineer
I think you are confusing those who oppose technology for various reasons (your luddite) and those who have come to the conclusion that our technology, irregardless of its sophistication, is unable to solve humanity's ultimate problems.
