Logging Protest (OR)
Today is Thursday, 03 August 2006

Two proposed timber sales in the Illinois Valley came under fire Wednesday night in Cave Junction.

More than two hundred people crowded into the Josephine County Government Building to learn more about the Anderson West, and Tennessee Lime logging sales ...

It was standing room only, during the meeting itself. Critics say the two sales would disturb old-growth habitat, and threaten a dozen special-status animal species.

The BLM says they are not logging old-growth trees, only a thinning operation inside an old-growth stand ...

1. Hopefully not like the "thinning" I saw along the OR coast.
Thinned of anything not on a near vertical slope. Thinned of everything except a strip along public roads 4 or 5 trees deep.
