The United States vs China: the war for oil

Now this is an interesting scenario..

The wargame started with a crisis involving Iran which quickly escalated when the Tehran regime attacked shipping in the Persian Gulf; this in turn provoked a massive US naval response. As this conflict was developing, China attacked Taiwan, leading the US to split its forces in order to be able to respond to this additional challenge.

Just to make things really complicated, Venezuela then got in on the act by sending submarines into the Gulf of Mexico, linking up with a Chinese submarine and then rocketing American and Mexican oil facilities. The United States could not cope with this and called on the British to help; London promptly sent some nuclear-attack submarines to sink the Venezuelan and Chinese forces. As the "game" played out, India joined in on the US side only when the war was going well for Washington, and Russia stayed firmly out of the conflict.

1. geez... who makes up the 'enemy' personalities for this 'game'

because they should be fired. The AI used to generate these 'enemy' actions is way off the mark, IMO.

For example: Venezuela is NOT going to send subs into the Gulf of Mexico and Tehran wouldn't attack shipping the the Gulf. Both of these actions are illogical from a strategic standpoint, IMO.


They are, however, actions that an EMPIRE might take, as they feel no need to worry over consequences. Go figure.

4. concur...

Iran's avoiding conflict as well as it can, it has no reason (other than to repay the US for placing a brutal Shah in charge which killed thousands of Iranians) to attack the US. As for Venezuela, Hugo Chavez is pretty much tongue in cheek, he hates Bush and makes no bones about it. Is he ballsy enough to attack the US? Probably, if we attacked first. Would he launch an unprovoked attack? Very doubtful. As for China, why THE HELL would they wait for America to attack Iran? China doesn't want a war with the US because both countries loss way too much in the process. In the end, there is no "upcoming war". At least not one of the scale that was posted.

3. It does increasingly look like...

China, Russia, Iran and Venezuela are forming an alliance of sorts, and other countries are showing some interest in cozying up as well. We're not talking about another cold war, but probably something much more sinister, if that's possible. I can't think of anything good that will come of this for the U.S.

The trigger to this scenario makes no sense.
