Off Shore East Coast Cloud Bank ??

Has any one else noticed the huge bank of clouds that has been hanging off shore for weeks, maybe a month? Sometimes it stretches further north and sometimes further south. Sometimes it's narrow and sometimes wide, but it seems to be always there.

I've never seen this before.

1. I don't know about the East Coast
But in Northern CA there's usually a fog bank hanging offshore, or onshore for most of the summer months. Is it likely that something similar is happening off the East Coast?

2. Haven't looked out over the ocean for a while,
but I don't think such a cloud bank would be unusual with all the rain we've been getting lately.

Most of the storms are heading eastward, so those clouds are likely yesterday's storm.

3. this bank of clouds does not touch shore

and are not part of any system. I've lived on the east coast of america my whole life and have never seen this. You see on weather radar.

4. Potential Gulf Stream Problems?
There's some fear among climatologists that arctic melting will disrupt the Gulf Stream, causing weather changes in Europe and North America.

5. that's what I'm thinking

just read a report that the Atlantic is warming up.

the Alps are melting and falling down.

parts of Alaska have melted and towns have had to move to firmer ground

arid places have rain

rainy place are drying up

up is down

and the bushgang says everything is peachy fine.

9. There has been a high-altitude "Low" over Ohio for weeks
By "Low", I mean low-pressure system. This causes the jet stream to make a huge counterclockwise "U" shape, centered on Ohio, with the winds headed out of the continent over Maine.

Does that make any sense? Perhaps that stationary pattern is responsible. Weather systems move slowest in the summer, but this is not moving at all.

11. Check this out
This link will take you to a US Navy page that shows the east coast in visible satellite picture and one that shows cloud types by color. Very informative. Bob
