Wyoming Oil Prices Lag Behind International Barrel Prices
Wyoming Oil Prices Lag Behind International Barrel Prices
Kristin Espeland

LARAMIE, WY (2006-05-01) The price for a barrel of oil from Wyoming has plummeted recently as compared to international and Texas oil. The differential has been as much as 20 dollars a barrel. And Governor Dave Freudenthal has convened a regional task force to address the problem.

Now I'm no economist, but I'm wondering why some oil is more equal than other oil.

1. Wyoming is Dick Cheney's home state.
And no one dares to raise oil prices for the friends of Shotgun Dick. (I'm not talking about the local gas stations. I'm speaking of Texaco, Mobil, et al.)

2. Usually the sulphur content
Crude oil containing low levels of sulfur compounds, especially hydrogen sulfide . The facilities and equipment to handle sweet crude are significantly simpler than those required for other potentially corrosive types of crude oil. http://www.glossary.oilfield.slb.com/default.cfm

3. Sulphur content of
Wyoming crude not what you think. Only that crude from the old Salt Creek Field has appreciable levels. Will try to dig up a link.
