Photo-series of glacier collapse at Palmer Station Antarctica (OMFG!)
Edited on Wed Mar-08-06 06:22 PM by jpak
This is from 2004...

http://www.60south.com/loudwater/loudwater04a.htm

I spent 5 months at Palmer several years ago and saw (and heard and felt) my share of glacier calving, but I did not know this had occurred (or that it had been documented).

There was plenty of evidence that the Marr Glacier had retreated since the station was built (the freshwater pond had dried up and photos of the station from the early '70's clearly showed that the glacier was much closer than it is today) - but I wasn't aware of how much the glacier has retreated since I was there....

....we could hike to Old Palmer from "New" Palmer (roped up of course)....

...and we could also walk into the Ice Cave at Old Palmer (after a few hours of digging) and it was completely frozen inside....(an unbelievably beautiful - the walls were covered with giant "snowflakes" as big as your hand)...

I'm absolutely shocked...

:wow: :wow: :wow:

1. When the US jumps on the bandwagon after realizing
their is a serious problem it will be too late....

All of the * cabal deregulation of safety, health and environmental rules have done in 6 years what it might of taken 15-20 years....

Absolutely criminal...

3. Bush and his oil cronies are going to have to live in this monstrous
world too; are they that nuts and that greedy? I guess the answer is yes.
