Australia's GHG Emissions Rising - Energy Sector Alone Up 30% 1990-2010

Australia continues to increase its output of greenhouse gas emissions with the energy sector the biggest polluter.

A climate report released by the Federal Government today is an assessment of Australia's actions to reduce greenhouse gases.

The inventory reveals the energy sector continues to grow from 286 megatonnes of emissions in 1990 to 414 megatonnes in 2010, an increase of about 30 per cent.

It is expected the sector, which includes electricty and transport emissions, will account for about 70 per cent of total emissions by 2010.

1. How the hell have they managed 30%?

Senator Campbell says Australia's population is booming and as a result, demand for electricity can only rise.

Maybe, but it's only boomed by 13% since 1990 - It hardly justifies a 30% hike in output. Or are they trying to overtake the US to become the world's biggest clusterfuck nation? Maybe there's a prize, that would explain it.
