Arctic Refuge One Step Away from Ruin

Don't Let Oil Companies Plunder the Arctic Refuge
Dear Ian,
The Arctic National Wildlife Refuge is a step away from becoming
yet another oilfield. An amendment to protect the wildlife
refuge from planned oil drilling failed by just two votes in the
Senate Thursday, but the House of Representatives still has time
to stop the drilling.
http://action.truemajority.org/campaign/anwrdrilling/Opening the wildlife refuge to oil rigs is not about "energy
security" or bringing down the price of gas (siphoning out all
the oil under the sanctuary would save just one penny at the
pump). <1> Digging oil wells in one of the last untouched spots
in America is nothing but another federal giveaway to Bush
administration cronies in an oil industry that is gouging
consumers with $3/gallon gas while it reaps record profits. <2>
Next week an amendment to strip the Arctic drilling
authorization from a budget bill will go before the House of
Representatives.

we need an energy policy with better ideas for a secure,
sustainable future.

Here's the message we'll send to your representative:
Dear (we'll put your Congressmember's name here),
Opening the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge to drilling is not
the answer to America's energy crisis. It will not bring down
the price of gas or make us any less reliant on imported oil. We
need Congress to stand up for the rights of American consumers,
not the oil companies.
America needs a sane energy policy, not more oil company
giveaways.
Please vote for the amendment to strip authorization for
drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge from the budget
authorization bill.
Sincerely,
(We will put your name here.)
