Big Oil Tries to Bribe America Away from Alternative Energy

The oil industry wants to drill in areas now off limits, such as the Atlantic, Pacific and Gulf coasts and the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge in Alaska. It's promising new jobs and tax revenues. But why would the oil industry, which has been raking in record profits during the past few years, make such an offer? One word: Desperation.

It's because OIL is cheapest and dirtiest way to get rich for Oil barons. That's why they would do anything to keep us addicted to oil. We've got to keep on fighting them off. Gas prices are still too high.

3. I suspect the desperation is being triggered more by looming supply limits than by falling demand

There is no evidence I'm aware of that anything besides rising prices, outright supply limits or economic decline reduces global oil demand. Peak oil has the potential to supply all three. Peak Oil is a far bigger threat to Big Oil than electric cars.
