Jim Inhofe backs Rick Perry over 'mushy' Mitt Romney

By ROBIN BRAVENDER | 8/24/11 3:09 PM EDT

Texas Gov. Rick Perry’s White House bid has won the backing of the Senate’s leading climate change skeptic.

Among other reasons, Oklahoma Sen. Jim Inhofe told a home-state Chamber of Commerce audience Wednesday that he can’t get behind the GOP’s presumed presidential front-runner. Inhofe said he “likes Mitt Romney, but he's a little mushy on environmental issues.”

For example, Inhofe said of Newt Gingrich, “I always have this vision of him sitting on the couch holding hands with Nancy Pelosi.”

Gingrich has https://www.politicopro.com/story/energy/?id=4851">taken heat from the right for appearing with Pelosi on a love seat in a 3-year-old commercial calling for a compromise on global warming legislation. The ad was cut for Al Gore's Alliance for Climate Protection.
