How do we attack the idea
that EPA regulations, the Endangered Species Act, and other environmental laws counter job growth?

As an environmentalist, I know this isn't true but I don't know how to counter this.

(I mean, other than the argument than the first work I've had in a month has come from a road project. ;) )

This is something that comes up often, and I'm not sure how to respond.

1. When you catch all the fish, your job as a fisherman is over. What next?

2. By "What next" I mean what does the fisherman think he'll do next.
I think I might have sounded a bit snobby there, without meaning to... Sorry! :)

3. That's obvious to me

but how do we argue that saving the delta smelt, the spotted owl, the snail darter, the golden-cheeked warbler, and so forth is in our best interest as a country? Hell, even the wolf and the polar bear?

Or keeping sulfur dioxide out of the air or CO2 out of the air? Or leaving logs on burned area or keeping open fields as open space?

I understand how these guidelines protect us, but how do I contradict someone who list his job as a logger?
