PRETORIA, South Africa (AP) -- Officials say a game ranger at South Africa's flagship Kruger National Park has been arrested in connection with rhino poaching.

National parks Chief executive David Mabunda said the ranger was arrested Monday and had been linked to previous incidents of rhino poaching in the park.

South Africa has deployed soldiers in Kruger to help rangers confront an upsurge in poaching supported by international syndicates that killed 333 rhino last year.

This year 227 rhino and 15 alleged poachers have been killed, and 131 suspects have been arrested as the price of rhino horn surpasses gold.

1. Oh goodie.. the rich have found a new item that they want.. and because
its worth more than gold, people are willing to poach.. If we taxed the wealthy, they wouldn't have extra $ for these "perks".

4. Dunno about taxing the rich
I'd be surprised if there's a big market for rhino horn in the U.S. If the market is elsewhere, then our tax structure is irrelevant.

But, taxing the rich is a good idea, even if it saves no rhinos.

:hi:

2. It's good to know the soldiers are out there protecting the rhinos from poachers.
There are a lot more people in the world than rhinos. I really don't mind if a few go down.
