Proposal to phase out nuclear energy offered by TEPCO shareholders

At the annual TEPCO (Tokyo Electric Power Co., or "Tokyo Denryoku" as it's known in Japan) meeting held today in Tokyo (June 28 Japan time), it was reported that 402 shareholders were to submit a proposal to phase out nuclear power generation, but the proposal would be opposed by TEPCO executives.

In the proposal, nuclear energy was criticized as being "grouted in lies, leaving a negative legacy for future generations, and imposing a burden on local areas". TEPCO would be asked to decommission existing nuclear power plants in the order they were built, and not to build new plants or make additions to existing plants.

2. TEPCO's the only game in town

for roughly 35-40 million electric power customers, including Tokyo and the government facilities there. "Too big to fail", and all that.
