1. Yep, but no more than "ice loggers"
because in both cases, those environments will take centuries to recover.

7. Is it old growth?
Alot of the land down South is replanted, because its used for tree-farming. It depends on the land, as awful as that is. The real problem is selling American natural resources to China, and Asia, which we will probably be doing in a tough economy. Old growth destruction is the main issue, and New Guinea just made '3rd largest' rainforest which is really really bad.

Rainforest depletion is probably responsible for MOST of our current global-warming. This issue is little discussed.

9. It's my understanding that much of the old growth was cut down over a hundred years ago.

There was an episode whee they talked about finding dozens of hand cut logs in the mud. Years ago, the wood was so plentiful, that if a log had any defect on it at all, it was left in the swamp to sink in the mud.

13. Boycott wood! (grin)
Don't buy anymo' wood. Don't use toilet paper, it comes from wood.

Y'know, if we all boycotted wood we could absolutely fix the world.
It would become a totally different place.

Heck, the electric industry suppliers have, heretofore, boycotted the sun, and look at the difference they've made in our world.
