Save Fukushima, Save Our Future -200 Voices
SFSOF Project (Author), Rie TANAKA (Editor)

Product Description

This book is publised by a volunteer project "Save Fukushima, Save Our Future. (SFSOF)". The book contains 200 collected voices or opinions of evacuees, farmers, children, mothers and fathers; all individuals who are facing the disastrous effects of the Fukushima Nuculear Accident.

SFSOF is donating all of their proceeds to the victims of the Tohoku Earthquake and the Fukushima nuclear accident.

Introduction

More than 3 months have passed since the Tohoku Earthquake & Tsunami on 3-11-11 with little improvement at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant since reactors went into meltdown the following day. Despite this lack of progress, there is an oddly optimistic mood in Japan - as though we have somehow overcome this great crisis, unique in human history, or that the situation was never as bad as some feared. Japanese mass media are undeniably influential in this respect, generally avoiding pessimistic analysis. but an increasing number of ordinary citizens with internet access have sought information online and become deeply concerned about the effects of radiation on human health, the soil, sea and wider ecology. Unfortunately, these concerns have not been adequately addressed by the relevant organizations and local and national government authorities.

The 200 voices in this e-Book are the real voices of ordinary Japanese people, many of us from the affected region - originally written in Japanese and mainly collected from the Twitter website. We ask you please to listen to our thoughts and feelings. We feel our opinions and fundamental human rights are being ignored. We humbly ask people all over the world to pay attention to what is going on in Japan right now.

Extracts from this book

- When I went and prayed at Yasukuni Shrine* on New Year's Day, I didn't imagine having a decisive battle on our soil in our generation. But this time all the world is on our side. *A shrine dedicated to the souls of dead Japanese soldiers. (03.16)

- During 9-11, many stories of heroes were introduced on TV or newspapers which encouraged many people. However, in Japan, heroes aren't broadcasted at all to avoid "A tall tree catches much wind." I want to know names of everyone working to keep the nuclear plants under control. They aren't nameless or faceless. Each are risking their lives as heroes. (03.18 10:21)

- My 5-year-old son never complained and followed me on a rather difficult trip, but today, he finally appealed to me in tears that he wanted to go back to his nursery school in Fukushima. I told him that he had already left his school, and all the rest I couldn't tell him about nuclear plant, its effects on farming and health. Then in the evening, two of us practiced AIUEO*. *equivalent to ABC in English. (04.06 00:01)

- Cherry trees are in full bloom. They are really beautiful. Cattle are fine, but cesium is invisible. The usual spring breeze though… (04.27 22:13)

- Fukushima recorded the highest temperature of 30.7℃. Windows are to be remained closed, outdoor swimming pools are shut down, gauze masks and long sleeves must be worn, and much of the local produce are restricted to ship. Who could call this a safe lifestyle? Reconstruction seems unreal under such circumstances. (05.20 19:43)

- I have raised all four of my children strictly through breast feeding. My breast feeding condition was well and they refused bottle feeding anyway. I couldn't be happier when I was feeding them. Following the detection of radioactive materials, there are mothers who must give up breast feeding. I can't help shedding tears as I think of those mothers and babies. (05.22 10:06)

- "My husband works at Tohoku Electric Co.," a friend of mine is crying. Not only parents but also teachers everywhere are thinking and worried about children… What and who is this trial for? (05.26 01:28)
