Nissan shows off new racing Leaf

Nissan Motor Co. will hold a race for electric vehicles next year and plans to field a special version of its Leaf model in the event.

The racing model, unveiled on June 6, uses the same power unit as regular Leaf cars but has a carbon fiber body, which cuts its weight 40 percent to 925 kilograms. Its maximum speed is 150 kph.

The racing model will not be sold to the general public. Nissan already has two racing Leafs, and plans to produce a further six by September. It hopes to have a garage of 20 cars by the time the race is held...
