Kan's energy policies under G-8 spotlight
Edited on Thu May-26-11 12:27 AM by kristopher
Kan's position has been reported but meanwhile in the same article
...Sarkozy, meanwhile, plans to include a commitment to reinforce the safety of nuclear power generation in a G-8 communique.

He intends to push the issue at a G-8 ministerial meeting in early June and hopes that a meeting of the International Atomic Energy Agency in late June will set the stage for establishing international safety standards.

France uses nuclear power generation to supply nearly 80 percent of its electricity.

The country hopes that strict international standards on nuclear power plants will increase demand for the next-generation pressurized water reactor developed by French company Areva SA.

And that is really what it is all about.

How bad would an accident have to be for salespeople like Sarkozy to denounce the engine of profit that nuclear is to them?

Seriously, how bad? I'm inviting speculation...

1. No speculation on how bad it would need to be?
Come on. Would the loss of a major city do it?

2. I doubt I can usefully speak about Sarkozy thinks...
I can give one particular example as it applies to me: if nuclear power killed more people per terawatt-hour than fossil fuels, then I would stop supporting it.

I doubt that's the only possible scenario that would make me stop supporting it, I'm just giving a concrete example.
