MT state rep introduces bill declaring global warming "progress"
Edited on Sat Mar-05-11 09:48 AM by wtmusic

HB 549 was introduced by Republican ex-farmer/firefighter Joe Read, who recently unseated a dem in Montana's climate zombie caucus of 2010.

The legislature finds that to ensure economic development in Montana and the appropriate management of Montana’s natural resources it is necessary to adopt a public policy regarding global warming.

(2) The legislature finds:

(a) global warming is beneficial to the welfare and business climate of Montana;

(b) reasonable amounts of carbon dioxide released into the atmosphere have no verifiable impacts on the environment; and

(c) global warming is a natural occurrence and human activity has not accelerated it.

Turns out Read doesn't necessarily believe a word of it, but sees this lie as a necessary step to challenge government intervention.

"Sometimes you have to do fairly radical things to address a federal government."

Whoo boy. :crazy:

3. No offense but right now Montana is a frozen hell hole much of the year
Yet global climate change could turn MT into America's bread basket once Kansas, etc., are too hot and drought-stricken to grow much.

There will be mostly losers because of climate change but this self-concerned legislator may be stating the truth; some areas will benefit from climate change. I would expect the Dakotas to enjoy a much milder climate as well and those states may benefit as well. Yes, it's like whistling past a grave yard for him to state it so proudly but facts are facts.

People in northern states who once thought they could never grow certain fruits or plants can now grow them in their back yard. It's happening now, today.
