World Wildlife Fund Report Shows 100% Renewable Energy Possible by 2050
A new report from the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) claims to have the answers on how to have the entire world powered by renewable energy by 2050.

The Energy Report: 100% Renewable Energy by 2050, is the result of a collaborative effort between WWF and energy consultants Ecofys. Using intentionally conservative assumptions regarding energy costs, renewable energy technology progress, and expansion the report outlines key "ambitious but achievable" goals in getting global energy on the right path by mid-century.

Among other things, the report claims it is technically feasible to provide energy for everyone on the planet by 2050, with 95% of that energy coming from renewable sources.

1. Wow. Hope this is realistic. It is certainly optimistic.

2. We don't have that long.

Looks like global warming will eat us before then.

the comment that global warming will eat us before then, it looked at first as though that is what you were saying, "I hope so" to. Since our speicies is like plague on the planet, condemning so many others to extinction and destroying the ecosphere, I could almost understand even that sentiment, except, of course, that we would be taking so many other creatures with us into extinction by climate change.

4. Gosh, what a great 100th birthday gift that would be for me!
But frankly, I am more inclined to believe that our civilization is like a rabbit shot on the run--it is already dead, but it continues to move in the same direction for a while before it keels over.

That being said, as much as I don't want to die, I am actually rather relieved that I am not likely to live long enough to see the worst consequences of the mess we are making of everything (not just the environment). Unfortunately, my kids will be around to suffer through it, and if they end up having kids, so will my grandchildren. I feel somehwat guilty about that.

In fact, as much as I wanted kids, I almost chose not to have any, specifically because I feared what their future would be like.

But then I thought to myself that if I acted on that fear, I would have no real investment in the future, and that might make me less likely to do whatever I could to forestall such a devastating future.

But of course that was just a rationalization, because I really, really wanted to have kids. I would not undo my precious kids (now 29 and 31) for the world, but I do feel guilty bout the fact that I have essentially condemned them to a future that I am glad I won't be around to suffer myself.
