Sen. Manchin (D? - WV) - "Focus All My Energy On Stopping The EPA And What It's Done To This Nation"
EDIT

The cap-and-trade bill would have been a legislative attempt to cut emissions. But the EPA also has the authority, given to it by a Supreme Court ruling, to regulate the gases. With cap and trade off the table, "I now focus all my energy on stopping the EPA and what it's done to the nation," Manchin said.

Sen. Jay Rockefeller, D-W.Va., has already backed a bill that would strip the EPA's authority to regulate emissions for two years. Manchin would like to go further.

"I would go for a permanent ban on having the EPA regulate what should be legislated," he said.

Manchin's statements did not keep him from being attacked by Republicans. "Less than 24 hours after taking the oath of office, Joe Manchin broke his promise to West Virginians by throwing his full support behind Harry Reid and President Obama's job-killing anti-coal agenda in Washington," said Brian Walsh, a spokesman for the National Republican Senatorial Committee.

Good thing he innoculated himself against Republican attacks with his Tom Delay-esque stance on the EPA, huh?

2. A lot of WV voters are not all-out anti-EPA
There's a huge movement in that state AGAINST mountaintop-removal mining.

And, since we just elected this guy, we have the right to expect SOMETHING from him.

It's not enough that he just CALLS HIMSELF a Democrat.

3. Yes, let's just keep on kissing the ass of Political Expediency though the Heavens fall . . .
. . . and the oceans acidify and the mountains flatten and the streams run bright with cadmium and coal-ash waste and the planet bakes.

Then we can stand around on the smoking ruins ten or fifteen years from now at a Democratic Party fundraiser.

As we dab our mouths with napkins to remove the great greasy taste of mercury-rich grass carp and snakehead, we can spend a couple of hours in a congratulatory circle jerk discussing our amazing clear-eyed knowledge of How The World Really Works.

4. Amen to that
having grown up in eastern Ohio and Western PA, W.Va., as a kid I remember the Y & O coal company towns where the streams ran bright orange and the smell of sulphur was like hell. We are coming back to this folks only a a scale we can only imagine. Keep it up Manchin, this guy is a coal company hack and always has been.

8. With "D"s like this, who needs "R"s?
There's not even a pretence at a difference between the two wings
of the corporate party in some cases is there?
