"The Fifth Annual Volkswagen and Other Alternatives Auto Meet and Sustainable Energy Exposition"
Join us for a gathering of vintage Volkswagens, Electric, Hybrid, Alternative, and Clean Fuel Vehicles from the past and present!
At the Cleveland Metroparks Brookside Reservation (near the Cleveland Zoo). For directions, click on, Brookside Reservation.
**Exhibitors will demonstrate fuel cells, biomass fuels, green building, and wind and solar technologies.
**Electricity for the event will be generated with clean-burning, renewable, and locally produced BIODIESEL.
**Food and fuel will be provided by TOMMY'S Restaurant!
**Music at this year's event will continue our tradition of "alternative" folk and country with a focus on "DIESELBILLY" (a.k.a. truckin' songs), in honor of the growing acceptance of Biodiesel in the domestic landscape (We are currently booking acts, e-mail analogmotors@core.com for details).
**Poets are invited to join Daniel Thompson, Poet Laureate of Cuyahoga County, in the "GRAPES OF WRATH" project. Reading from selected poems and excerpts from Steinbeck's masterpiece, the dual images will emerge of a world in which we hope to live and one from which we have the tools to extricate ourseves from. The enduring chronicle of the Joad's battle to survive the Dust Bowl migration of the 1930's is a timely tale of environmental, social and economic responsibility.
Student involvement is encouraged. This event is currently non-judged, ADMISSION IS FREE, and daily drivers are our favorite participants!
In 1903, Dr.Ferdinand Porsche won acclaim for the Porsche-Lohner Chaise, a front-wheel drive aluminum bodied hybrid-electric automobile. Twenty-five years later he developed the prototype for his economical Volkswagen Beetle (still unsurpassed in production volume and only recently challenged in fuel efficiency). In fact, the Volkswagen Beetle and Kombi (light van) met the current Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE) requirements over thirty years ago. As early as 1892, Rudolph Diesel was granted a patent for his compression-ignition engine, designed to run on peanut oil, with the express intent of providing a source of sustainable energy to European farmers, then saddled with the high cost of fueling steam engines.
In this spirit of technological achievement, our event showcases and celebrates the progress and challenges of the rapidly emerging world of Sustainable Mobility and Energy. Last year's event was the largest gathering of alternative fuel vehicles in Ohio. Also in attendance were some of Northeastern Ohio's finest vintage air-cooled VW's -- the original alternative vehicles! There were also some grass-root electric conversion cars of the 70's and 80's, and a strong showing of TDI's running on Biodiesel.
Because transportation is only one aspect of Sustainability, we invite other relavant business, non-profit and government organizations to participate. Booth space and stage time is available. For further information call 216-231-1174.
