The Endless Debate on Climate & Energy Legislation Must Come To An End, And Soon
A look inside the Beltway at what is happening on the Climate/Energy bill front:

There was a flurry of activity on Capital Hill yesterday as the entire Senate Democratic caucus met to discuss climate legislation and what form a bill might take this summer.

The main contenders are the American Clean Energy & Security Act, of June 2009 and the Lieberman and Kerry bill known as the American Power Act. They big outcome yesterday? Agreement to meet again on June 24th.

1. the sooner we remove all the legislation's teeth, the sooner it will pass
and the senate is the dentist. the interests of capital will be protected. that is the function of our house of lords.

2. If a Dem majority in both houses and a Dem President can't FINALLY do something
to slow climate change and wean us off fossil fuels, then it's game over.

And let's not hear any of this "it's up to us" and "It's all our fault. Obama can't do ANYTHING" BS. WE can't build solar or wind farms without government involvement. Auto manufacturers, in cahoots with Big Oil, won't build affordable electric cars without significant pressure. Citizens can't impose a carbon tax without government help. We can consume less, recycle, not breed, go vegan,...but the bigger issues require government involvement and new legislation. There's no getting around that.

4. It makes one wonder what the next excuse is going to be ...
... now that they can't rely on "Republican majority in Congress",
"Republican majority in the Senate" or "Republican president who
would veto anything the other two houses put up" ... ?
