Is there anything else other that writing and calling my senators to ask that Obama step in and demand BP put an end to this? Any Washington dc events I could go to and hold a sign? I feel like I want to do more because I'm losing my mind just sitting here and listening to all the damage the oil continues to do. I have heard enough facts. Please help with your ideas .. web sites to visit? Anything?

2. I SO sympathize! It is excruciating for me too! Maddening and terrifying! I did see this:
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=389&topic_id=8399670

It's from something that ran in Firedoglake. I know that site has engendered a lot of dislike around here lately, and I'm not completely certain as to why. But reading through this seemed to make perfect sense! Full disclosure: I remain a militant Al Gore supporter so that tends to leaven things a little in my thinking.

I think we have to get louder and louder and more and more unrelenting. We have to start outshouting the teabaggers. So let's be completely and unapologetically rahm emmanuel/kkkarl rove crass then. Because I can be as Machiavellian as the next guy. A crisis should not be left unexploited. It worked for bush/cheney's precious war in iraq. Why can't we make that work for us? This is FAR more urgent on a PLANETARY scale!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'd like to use the bad guy's tricks and make them work for GOOD. This is a crisis! We desperately need to stop it - YESTERDAY!!!!! Not for the benefit of any frickin' political party or corporate profit. For the survival of OUR PLANET!!!! We should get big and loud and swollen and unrelenting. We need to stand on the shoulders of this crisis and scream our lungs out! Because this crisis is something that makes anyone against it look like shit. As they should!!! Their greed and selfishness and cheapskate short-sightedness may well be aiding and abetting an extinction event. There is no coming back from extinction. There is no bailout from extinction. No tax cut or rebate from extinction. And certainly no electoral victory either. You get a second chance in maybe a few billion years of evolution if you haven't killed everything.

3. As long as we rely on oil for transportation...
there will likely always be some oil industry disaster on the horizon, here or elsewhere. One thing any individual could do is exit the whole system, as much as is practical - personally leave the oil market. I commute to work by bicycle and only rarely drive. We had three cars in the family, now we all share one, and it doesn't get much use. We heat with natural gas, but have the house well insulated and the temperature down enough that we burn one third the NG we used to.

Drops in the bucket of course, but it does feel good to personally set an example as part of a solution, rather than a part of the problem.

4. I hear you
I own 2 hybrid cars and hope to go electric soon. I am a member of Sustainable South Shore and have participated in many green energy festivals - in PA, NJ, MA,... I know that's great but this oil spill down in the gulf is making me sick. I understand something is going on June 9th in Washington dc to protest BP. Any other ideas for me??
