http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=115x89265">NY park getting Toro hydrogen-powered utility vehicles

Making life safe for golf playing trust fund brats with no science educations, I presume?

NIAGARA FALLS, NY — The Toro Company is providing Niagara Falls State Park (NFSP) with three hydrogen-powered utility vehicles based on the Toro Workman chassis by mid-2007. Toro, headquartered in Bloomington, MN, displayed the hydrogen utility vehicle in its booth at the 2007 Golf Industry Show in Anaheim, CA., on Feb. 22-24.

Toro is partnering with the State of New York to provide the next generation of turf maintenance equipment powered by hydrogen fuel cells. The project supports New York’s Executive Order 111 to adopt “Green and Clean” State buildings and vehicles. The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) is contributing $380,025 toward the project.

I'm quite sure that this $380,025 on golf course equipment did more to save the environment than say, buying 38,000 science books would have ever done.

2. Actually, I don't give a rat's ass about golf carts.

Personally, my feeling is that the energy discussion is more dominated by bourgeois consumers than it should be. I have no use from a land and water use perspective for golf courses in general.

Fission is my answer to all primary energy requirements however.

But note that I make a distinction between need and indulgence.

6. What's missing is a price on indulgence
i.e., a progressive rate structure.

5. Regular rechargeable electric carts are far more environmentally-friendly
than the expensive so-called "green" hydrogen carts.

I wonder how much CO2 was emitted just making the damn things.

3. Well, given the rewriting of textbooks being done these days,
maybe those golf carts might do more to save the environment than the 38K "new" science books would ...

8. Tough shit. Anti-science mystics need to ridiculed.
To my mind anti-nukes are the exact equivalent of creationists, people who carry on about a science that they know nothing about.

Ignorance kills.

10. Like I said, anti-nukes are scatter brained.
There isn't an anti-nuke alive who can compose a coherent thought.

Some of the worst mindless anti-nukes here can't even cut and paste coherently, something that's obviated pretty much every damn day.

7. They were delivered, according to this .pdf
2 hydrogen powered utility vehicles were delivered, as were two lithium battery powered vehicles. Haven't found any information about the results of the evaluations.
