Breaking: Hackers attempt to access Canadian government Centre for Climate Modeling and Analysis
On the heels of the controversial story about emails and data stolen by hackers from the Climate Research Unit at the University of East Anglia, it has now been revealed that individuals posing as network technicians recently attempted to infiltrate another climate data center operated by the Government of Canada.

According to sources at the University of Victoria, two people claiming to be network computer technicians presented themselves at the headquarters of the Canadian Centre for Climate Modeling and Analysis and tried to gain access to the data servers.

1. Good
Can they identify the hackers? It'd be nice if these types did some jail time.

4. Security tapes
Supposedly there's security tapes, but I haven't seen them. The University is really clamming up on this - but that might just be because the Centre is the jurisdiction of the Canadian government.

5. Lol, you gotta be kidding me. That takes some serious balls
or maybe you just have to be extremely stupid.

7. A leaf straight out of Mitnik's book. Social engineering is generally...
...easier than cracking passwords. And physical access makes a great many more exploits possible.

8. Indeed, was going to post that. Social engineering is how you hack now-a-days.
Doing it the old fashioned way is increasingly difficult.

12. Yeah, but this wasn't some mom and pop operation hosting these servers
from the article it sounds like this was a real datacenter. Assuming you can just walk right in and screw with the servers is either really brave or really really stupid.

9. I wonder how much money the hackers get from the right wing when they find something?
Is there a market out there? Don't know but you have to wonder about the context.

10. The article actually has a list of 'bounties' that are out there. These hackers will probably...
...not get paid, since they didn't do the job. Maybe they might get paid if they keep their mouth shut.

Then again they could just be dumbshit denialists who think they can social engineer when they lived in their moms basement for years.

13. I think there is a market out there for anything that goes against Obama or the left.
The GOP love markets and think they can accomplish anything.

11. That's not hacking
That is burglary.

I hope they are given a fair trial and sent to the big house for breaking and entering
