World needs to prepare to cope with at least 3-4C rise
Climate change sceptics and fossil fuel companies that have lobbied against action on greenhouse gas emissions have squandered the world's chance to avoid dangerous global warming, a key adviser to the government has said.

Professor Bob Watson, chief scientist at the department for environment and rural affairs, said a decade of inaction on climate change meant it was now virtually impossible to limit global temperature rise to 2C. He said the delay meant the world would now do well to stabilise warming between 3C and 4C.

6. Or for sea level rise that displaces a billion?
There are no amount of levies that can be built to stem the sea rise.

9. A billion might be optimistic
http://www.livescience.com/environment/060718_map_settle.html

...
The number of people living within 60 miles of coastlines will increase by about 35 percent compared to 1995, the mapmakers say.

This type of migration will expose 2.75 billion people to coastal threats from global warming such as sea level rise and stronger hurricanes in addition to other natural disasters like tsunamis. A reminder of the risks of seaside living came this week in the form of a tsunami that killed at least 350 people and devastated many on Indonesia's Java Island.

The Earth is home to some 6.5 billion people and is projected to have 9 billion by 2050.

With more than half of Americans currently living on or close to the coast, the new map could become a useful tool for future urban planning and emergency forecasting.

12. Yeah, just being conservative.
I mean, I would be bandying about the 6C figure I calculated, but then, I'd have to explain my methodology, graph it out, etc. And then deniers would just say "oh you're not a scientist."

So a billion I figured would be reasonable to marginal believers that global warming existed.
