FDA urged to ban feeding Millions of Tons of Chicken Shit to cattle

A fight is brewing over the practice of feeding chicken feces and other poultry farm waste to cattle.

A coalition of food and consumer groups that includes Consumers Union and the Center for Science in the Public Interest has asked the Food and Drug Administration to ban the practice. McDonald's Corp., the nation's largest restaurant user of beef, also wants the FDA to prohibit the feeding of so-called poultry litter to cattle.

Members of the coalition are threatening to file a lawsuit or to push for federal legislation establishing such a ban if the FDA doesn't act to do so in the coming months.

Farmers feed 1 million to 2 million tons of poultry litter to their cattle annually, according to FDA estimates. The litter includes feces, spilled chicken feed, feathers and poultry farm detritus.

2. "Have It Your Way!"
flame-broiled chicken poo.

to even read that they feed chicken feces to the cattle is nauseating enough, but to hear that it's actually legal still is even more so!

5. Well apart from the rat droppings, there's HFCS.
I recommend an organic brand. It won't have high fructose corn syrup and it might not have so many rat feces. And it will taste better.

6. Just throw in some rats too...not just the droppings.
Apparently a good number of rat fur is okay in Peanut butter. I got rid of peanut butter when I found out. I can't handle that stuff.

11. Only if they are fatten and butchered locally.

This practice mostly happens in feed yards before slaughter.

Most of the beef consumed in this country is a product of this
chicken shit process.

15. Put an end to corporate factory farming
BuzzFlash.com's Review

Watch the trailer for "A River of Waste The Hazardous Truth About Factory Farms" and learn about the grave toxicity and pollution issues facing us from mega-corporate breeding farms. Like the privatization of water, genetically modified foods used to patent and privatize our food supply, and toxic chemicals and hormones in our food supply, this issue should be at the top of our public policy concerns.

View a bit about our rivers of waste from corporate farming by clicking here.

"A heart-stopping new documentary, A RIVER OF WASTE exposes a huge health and environmental scandal in our modern industrial system of meat and poultry production. Some scientists have gone so far as to call the condemned current factory farm practices as mini Chernobyls. In the U.S and elsewhere, the meat and poultry industry is dominated by dangerous uses of arsenic, antibiotics, growth hormones and by the dumping of massive amounts of sewage in fragile waterways and environments. The film documents the vast catastrophic impact on the environment and public health as well as focuses on the individual lives damaged and destroyed."

These factory farms are breeding grounds for diseases and pollution. Some have speculated that a corporate factory hog farm in Mexico and its trail of fetid untreated waste was the source of the latest outbreak of swine flu.

"A River of Waste The Hazardous Truth About Factory Farms" is part of a new stage in BuzzFlash, advocating for reining in the corporations that are operating behind the scenes to seize control of our food and water supply, without concern for toxins and pollution. This is a far more dangerous threat than many of our political battles in Washington about which the media spends so much time covering, when the basic needs of food and water for life are being stolen and toxified as our attention is diverted.
