October 13, Accuweaather:

NASA's Goddard Institute for Space Studies (GISS) has just released their surface temperature (not satellite measured) anomaly data for the month of September 2009.

According to GISS, September 2009 was the second warmest September (land/ocean combined) on record globally, as the global temperature anomaly was +.65 C or +1.17 F. September of 2005 was the warmest on record with an anomaly of +.67 C or +1.21 F.

Larger variation may be the most obvious manifestation of global climate change. Bigger swings, higher highs and lower lows and more rapid change between. I wonder if this is only going to happen until a new equilibrium is reached or if is it a result of a higher energy system and will be persistent?

3. What bothers me about a study like this..
I will use my location as the example. Canberra, Australia.

When you look at the graphic you will see that Canberra is in a red region that is between 1-2C above average for the month.

If you look at this site from the Australian government it agrees with this study and confirms + 1.2C above the historical average. But only for the reporting station at the airport. If you were to use the Tuggeranong reporting station then Canberra was unchanged from the historical average for the month. The 2 stations are only 20 kilometers apart. It seems to me they may only use cherry picked stations. How many other stations around the world get left out?

5. GISS does not cherry pick, it weights.
