Taiwan Invests Big in Clean Tech
Another big energy move close to China. It is a great move by Taiwan, but also may have implications on China's energy plans.

Taiwan today announced a $1.4 billion plan to boost their renewable energy production eight-fold by 2015. This is the latest in a series of aggressive policy moves to position the island nation as a renewable energy powerhouse.

Two months ago the Taiwan government passed the Renewable Energy Development Act, which aims to increase renewable production capacity to 20 GW in 20 years.

"The green energy sector can turn Taiwan into a major power in energy technology and production, as well as provide the creation of green jobs," Taiwan's Premier Liu Chao-shiuan said today in a statement.

Also this week, Taiwan signed a wind power cooperation agreement with their long-time political foe China, which is also the fastest growing wind power market in the world.
