4. Back in the late 1980's a group of U of Mich grad students (and faculty)
with a Westinghouse Electric Co. grant were doing something similar. Then Westinghouse "lost its way" - sold its energy business to Siemens, and went into entertainment. :(

7. This is a very nice plant.
It wouldn't work well on snow days, or in especially cloudy areas, but where it is suitable, it's a nice idea. 100 MW is very small, but appreciable

8. Someone on the Energy(resources) yahoo group suggested running tower
up the side of mountain...certainly would take much less structure to build and be safer in high winds.

Wonder how this compares in costs/energy return to big wind turbines.

Probably suited i different areas.

Also wonder what effect all that heat does to the surrounding ecosystem.
