TVA To Dump Ash In Alabama {in poor area, natch}

TVA plans to dispose millions of tons coal ash in one of Alabama's poorest counties.

State officials say 3 million cubic yards of the waste from the Kingston, Tenn. spill will be shipped to a privately owned landfill in Perry County.

Federal officials say the ash is not dangerous, despite containing toxic materials arsenic and lead.

However, an environmental activist calls this an example of industry dumping on poor people in a vulnerable area.

That should put the cat amongst the pigeons with regard to rules
concerning transportation of low-level radioactive waste ...
not to mention the use of private (= basically unregulated) landfill
sites to store radioactive materials ...
