Flint biogas project, U.P. alt-fuel program get $2.4 million in federal funds
Two alternative fuel projects in Michigan will share nearly $2.4 million as a result of the $410 billion spending bill signed Wednesday by President Barack Obama.

The federal funding for a biogas production facility in Flint and a forestry biofuel center in Escanaba builds upon work launched through Michigan's Centers of Energy Excellence initiative, the state said in a release.

Flint's Biogas Center of Excellence will receive $951,000 to help support work by Kettering University to advance the use of biogas at the city's wastewater treatment plant. The funding builds upon the Michigan Economic Development Corp.'s earlier award of $3 million to Swedish Biogas International, a partner in the project.
