Vivian L. Hayward lived to teach about the earth

When Marta and I walked into her store several years ago with questions on " how to bird watch", she had all the answers.

Vivian L. Hayward lived to teach about the earth
BY SUE STORY TRUAX
WORLD-HERALD STAFF WRITER

Vivian L. Hayward was green before it was popular, said her son, Ross Hayward of Omaha.

She was into ecology, recycling and birds, but foremost, she was an educator, he said.

For 30 years, she taught eighth-grade earth science at what then was Mission Junior High School in Bellevue. Husband Russ taught the same subject and grade across the hall.

"Two-thirds of the student body there had either my mom or my dad," Ross Hayward said.

Vivian Hayward, 70, died Saturday of pancreatic cancer. She lived in Bellevue. Her husband survives her.

"Mom would want you to know she taught Sunday school (at the former Free Methodist Church in Bellevue) and at various church camps" for at least 20 years, said her son.
