Cruise Car's Solar/Electric Hybrids Take Green Mainstream

By Ben Mack January 07, 2009 | 8:02:29 AM

Hollywood is probably the last place that you expect to go green. There is just something about Botox, breast implants and reality TV that just doesn’t say “eco-friendly.”

http://www.cruisecarinc.com/">Cruise Car, the manufacturers and distributors of the only solar/electric hybrid cars in mass production, however, will try and change this perception of Tinseltown. The company announced recently that Universal Studios in Hollywood http://www.mmdnewswire.com/cruise-car-delivers-solar-electric-hybrid-for-alternative-energy-transportation-at-universal-studios-4221.html">intends to convert its entire fleet of 300 gas vehicles to solar/electric hybrid vehicles.

“We’re extremely honored to have a partner like NBC Universal Studios work with us to help make our environment a sustainable place to live,” said Ken Chester, President of Cruise Car. “And we commend Universal for being leaders in the entertainment industry by converting to alternative energy transportation.”

Cruise Car is located in Sarasota, Florida, and is one of the world’s leading manufacturers of solar/electric hybrid vehicles with over 50 models in its product line. The company is currently a supplier for 9 institutions including the US military, the University of Mississippi and IMG Academies. And its vehicle models range in size from your typical two-seater golf cart to the fourteen-seater Kudo that will be used at Universal.

Cruise Car claims its solar electric hybrids can travel 40 to 60 miles with a fully charged battery and that just driving around all day in the sun can boost the vehicle’s range by an additional 7 miles.
