Developers Diversified bringing solar power to malls

Developers Diversified Realty said today that a new partnership will lead to installation of solar power systems at hundreds of the Beachwood company's shopping centers, starting with those in California, Colorado, New Jersey and Puerto Rico.

The shopping center developer and operator said its partnership with SunEdison, North America's largest solar energy services provider, will also generate revenue..

SunEdison, of Beltsville, Md., will install the systems on unused rooftop space and pay rent to Developers Diversified. Developers Diversified will be able to buy the energy for use in common areas of the shopping centers. Stores also will be able to buy the solar power at rates less than retail energy rates.

Developers Diversified Realty owns and manages 720 retail properties in 45 states, plus Puerto Rico, Brazil, Russia and Canada.
