1. Would that be the ones that have the Amish built cabinets?

3. Scam. An Amish-built cabinet means nothing.
Go to a good hardware store and ask for a good electric heater. They will sell you an excellent one that will meet your needs for a fraction of the cost of that overpriced junk.

Be aware, though, that it takes BTUs to heat a room, no matter what source of heat you use. BTUs from electricity are expensive.

There's no magic answer.

4. By the way,
My favorite electric heaters are the oil-filled radiator style ones. They do a good job of keeping a room warm. There's no fan, but the radiant heat works well, and general air circulation keeps the warm air moving around the room.

I like them best of any, and they won't start fires or cause a serious burn.

6. No self-respecting Amish man would hold a hammer like those in the infomercial.
It's pure bullshit.

9. That's true, but
It's entirely possible that whoever's making these things contracted with an Amish woodworking shop to build the cabinets. Not all Amish-built wooden items are sold in quaint little shops. Many Amish shops do contract jobs.

12. One thing is that electric heat is immersion heat,
Edited on Sun Jan-04-09 10:51 PM by Turbineguy
so all energy is converted. No exhaust. In addition, radiant heat will feel warmer than convective or conductive. Keep you feet warm, and you'll be comfy.

8. The whole thing is a complete scam.
Buy the Amish made cabinet and we'll throw in the cheap junk heater for free. If it sounds like a scam, it is a scam.

10. Probably a scam
The "wholesome" Amish folk and their close counterparts, Mennonites, are into very bad stuff.

Like horrendous puppy mills.

I NEVER trust anything linked to a religion or sect.

Many use the tax escape to make huge cash and those who seem benign market their organizations and their products to the hilt.

Those huge ads in NYT and other outlets are not cheap.

Go elsewhere.

11. I'm gonna revive this thread with my update
It's winter here, overnight lows in the 20s and 30s. we just repainted our living/dining/kitchen area and had removed the econoheaters to do so.

we noticed the furnace was cycling on and staying on several times an hour. I whined and nagged and hubby painted and re-installed the heaters, the house holds at 76 and the furnace only kicks on late at night now and only runs a few minutes a couple times an hour.

14. A COMPLETE AND TOTAL RIP-OFF
You can buy an electric heater at your local hardware store that produces the same amount of heat for an insignificant fraction of the cost of an Edenpure.

Stay away from them...
