New effort made to delist gray wolf
(snip)
WASHINGTON - The Bush Administration is trying again to take the gray wolf of the Northern Rockies off the federal endangered species list.

Having lost in court this summer in a legal battle with conservationists, the US Fish & Wildlife Service has decided to reopen for public comment a proposal to delist the wolves, currently considered endangered under the Endangered Species Act.

1. At least they're doing something....
I never got the need to be expedient taking endangered species off the list. Especially those that aren't hunted for food. Are there really so many people itching to start killing grey wolves again? And, if so, why? And, even if there are a LOT of people who are... aren't there more important things to be focusing on?

2. It will never happen...
...has any species been removed once it made the list? So what's the right thing to do...give control back to the states on the matter, to the people affected the most by it...or to keep it in federal hands, far removed from those directly involved?...I dunno, don't they eliminate problems wolves now?...there was one killed here in the U.P. not long ago...one that had some sort of injury to a leg...one that had moved into the area around town...living under porches...and further south, a female moose was shot after entering town with two calves...the public frantically following, trying to get close to something new and different...the moose trying to keep her calves safe...dodging well-meaning (?) but ignorant folk...but I'll say it again, it will never happen, hasn't been done before, is unlikely to happen now.

3. To be fair, they HAVE to take it off the list.
They need to make room for the Republican elephant.
