Westar to begin building wind farm near Nashville

June 23, 2008 3:59 PM ET

Westar Energy Inc. and BP Alternative Energy North America Inc. will break ground Tuesday on a new wind farm.

The Flat Ridge Wind Farm site is located in Nashville, about 60 miles southwest of Wichita.

The 100-megawatt project was developed by BP. Westar will own half of the farm and purchase energy from BP, under a purchase power agreement. Flat Ridge is expected to go online by the end of 2008.
