Fuel costs need not dampen fun on the water -- no, really!
"Fuel is a very small part of owning a boat"

"We've seen no decrease in the number of people getting ready to go," said owner Rick Richardson. "Everybody's been talking about how much fuel has gone up, but people will still enjoy their boats. They might not drive around as much, and instead anchor out more or stay at the dock. Fuel is a very small part of owning a boat."

2. They sit on their boats at the dock.
"getting ready to go"

At least it probably cuts down on drunk-boating accidents . . .

3. Actually that is true. With sailboats it is 100% true. With the others maybe 50% true.
It is all about being in the boat, and in the water and perhaps in a beautiful place. that doesn't mean you need to go more than a half mile from where you are.
We would go boating for ten days, and only actually MOVE the boat for a very few hours on the first and last days. (And since it was a sailboat, you only use gas for the first 4 or 5 minutes to get the boat off the dock, or in a serious emergency.)

4. I went boating last friday with my brother in our dad's boat
Its a 17ft Boston Whaler with a 90hp Mercury outboard. To say the least it was a long ride! We burned through a whole 11 gallon tank in 3.5 hours I'm guessing maybe 50 miles total not sure. Just when we were getting to the port, that tank ran dry and I to unhook the fuel line from that dry tank and connect it to the other 11gal tank.

I'm glad my bro paid for the fuel lol.

6. I've got a 19' whaler
with a 60 gallon fuel tank. At trolling speed I can cover almost 1000 miles. Obviously, if one pulls skis or bombs along at 40mph you won't get that kind of range.
