White House slams climate bill
Mon Jun 2, 2008 11:43am EDT

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The White House on Monday
slammed legislation the U.S. Senate will consider this week
aimed at controlling climate change, arguing it would cut
economic growth and lead to soaring gasoline prices.

"As you can imagine, our opposition to this will be quite
strong and we'll be making these points throughout the week,"
Keith Hennessey, director of President George W. Bush's
National Economic Council, said at a White House forum on
the economy and taxes.

U.S. gross domestic product could be reduced by as much as
7 percent in the year 2050 and gasoline prices -- already at
record highs in the United States-- could soar by as much as
53 cents a gallon by 2030, he said.

The legislation the Senate will debate, which is not expected
to become law this year amid a presidential election, could
cut total U.S. global warming emissions by 66 percent by 2050,
according to a summary of the measure.

1. yes new technology
has always been shown to lead to no new economic growth. Why do conservatives have the label as being good at the economics?

3. LOL
I think most people would thrilled if the price of gas in 2030 was only 53 cents more than today.

6. "53 cents by 2030"?!? They don't even bother to have their lies makes sense anymore.
I guess I would do the same, if I had enslaved a nation of TV-addicted zombies, too.

53 cents a gallon. After the upcoming Phony Even-Year Election Gasoline Price Drop, it'll probably rocket past $4.50 by August of 2009 or 2010 at the absolute latest.

8. Why does the economy come before EVERYTHING?
you'd think as a rational animal, we'd be able to see that there are many, many, many millions of things that are more important than filling up an already rich pig's wallet full of more money. In America, you dare not do ANYTHING that "harms" the economy. Jesus Christ himself could appear before these people and demand that the economy take a back seat for once and he'd be crucified again for it. If I still felt like there was anything we could do to prevent the extinction of ALL life on earth very soon, I'd devote my life to building a time machine so I could go back in time and somehow prevent Ayn Rand, who was the cigarette that caused this cancer, from ever being born.
