This very comprehensive volume was prepared in 1992 and publicly published in 1993. "It was commissioned by the UN Solar Energy Group on Environment and Development as input to the 1992 UN conference on Environment and Development in Rio de Janeiro."

It is perhaps the best reference work on renewables ever published.

1. Update: Be advised for any looking to get this book that there are only 3 left new.

Though it states more is on the way, I checked Borders and they state the book is out of print. Judging by the book's age for printing it may need updated on a revised printing.
