Solar Coalition gets enthusiastic financial endorsement from Ulster lawmakers

KINGSTON – There was no debate; just enthusiastic statements of support for the work of The Solar Energy Coalition.

The Ulster County Legislature unanimously approved $200,000 in funding for services of the TSEC. The money fulfills a matching requirement for over $400,000 in federal funding.

The resolution sets five goals for the TSEC:

1. Work with solar technology companies and private and public universities in research and development to advance solar innovation.
2. Work with solar technology companies and partnering academic institutions to help commercialize solar technologies.
3. Work actively to attract solar technology industry to Ulster County.
4. Provide guidance to Ulster County institutions, including the Ulster County government and the Ulster County Legislature, on solar energy issues.
5. Work with Ulster County institutions to analyze and solve problems with and through use of solar energy systems and help Ulster County institutions maximize the use of solar and other sustainable energy technologies.

“Probably the best investment we’re going to make this decade”, said Economic Development, Housing, Planning and Transit Committee Chairman Hector Rodriguez.
