6 Degrees of Warming
National Geographic is hosting a program tomorrow called "6 degrees of Warming". It will discuss what could happen to the planet if we just warm by 6 degrees. Check the website below for times and channels in your area

1. How was it?
And was it based on the book of the same name by Mark Lynas or did they
just lift the title?

(FWIW, I'd recommend the book to any reader of this forum.)

4. I watched most of it, but I'd had enough after 4 degrees.
Actually, anything beyond 3 is overkill. If we're not all dead, we'll want to be.

9. Very depressing...
My husband couldn't even stay in the room to watch the end.

3. OK, but it wasn't up to date.
They were still reporting that "one additional degree could result in the polar ice caps being gone during summer in 50 years, and grain shortages, etc." Of course, the latest predictions (after last year's huge ice loss) are that we will see an ice-free arctic ocean in 5 years. And the grain shortages are already happening.

That, and they stuck to the company line that "there's still time to avoid the tipping-points!" I don't think current events really support that view any more.

6. I shouldn't be hard on them. It was better than average.
Their discussion of energy alternatives wasn't the usual happy-talk. Fusion is at least 30 years out. Wind power requires a lot of infrastructure and maintenance. Hey, maybe we should cut developing nations some slack for aspiring to the standard of living we take for granted. Etc. I was sort of pleased to see them give a nod to the axes I like to grind. (Imagine that, I liked them for agreeing with me)

National Geo has some good stuff on these topics. They were advertising that "human footprint" program coming up, which ought to be another eye-opener.

I wonder if they read E/E.

10. Try Boca Burgers, if they have those or anything similar where you are.
They're actually quite delicious and have a texture more like meat than you'd think. :)

11. Yeah, they're good. Natures burgers are all right too.
I could live vegetarian. Although I'm not.
