Xcel Energy Plans for Long-Term Increase in Renewable Energy

Xcel Energy in Colorado has announced that it intends to add 1,050 megawatts (MW) of renewable energy generation by 2015. By the end of December 2015, Xcel Energy plans to produce about 20 percent of its energy sales from renewable resources -- continuing the company's goal to remain well ahead of the state's Renewable Energy Standard (RES).

The utility plans to increase its portfolio of wind power by 800 MW to bring its total to 1,900 MW. There are also plans to increase the company's solar power production by 25 MW commercially, with plans to bring in a 200 MW plant as technology improves.
