Wind Power Blows Into The Outer Banks
http://www.wtkr.com/Global/story.asp?S=7321255&nav=ZolHbyvj

The wind is almost always blowing on the Outer Banks. The steady wind provided the Wright Brothers with a perfect site for their historic flight from Kitty Hawk and is also one of the reasons co-owners of the Outer Banks Brew Station Aubrey Davis and Eric Reece petitioned the Kill Devil Hills Board of Commissioners for permission to install a wind turbine.

They first requested permission in 2002, but the board rejected the request by a vote of 4 to 1. However, just over two weeks ago, they tried again. The Board of Commissioners approved the request and soon the first commercial wind turbine on the Outer Banks will be installed. Aubrey Davis hopes installation will be complete by Easter.

Aubrey Davis and Eric Reece plan to utilize the wind turbine for more than just an alternative energy source. In fact, they unveiled their plan in 2002 in hopes the wind turbine would pay tribute to the Wright Brothers First Flight on the 100th anniversary in 2003.

Aubrey Davis said, "It would be awesome to put a turbine in view of the monument as our thanks and gratitude for what those guys brought."
