Where do you see the up? Or was there a "sarcasm" missing?

4. Looks like the last data point is an increase
And while I hope that it is a trend that will continue, it seems meaningless to draw any conclusion from it whatsoever.

3. n=1?????
It looks like 1 data point you're talking about.

Sharp practice drawing a conclusion from one data point.

5. Looks like . . .
. . . there are at least monthly data points, so there would be seasonal variations throughout the year. I think that last data point is the approaching winter, when ice will increase.

7. just noticed that myself
It's a shift to a new baseline, my guess, a lower sea ice baseline. We're not approaching the up phase to bring us near the top of the new range of variation.

10. Yes, the Chukchi Sea is finally starting to ice over
Not to worry or anything - it's only November. :sarcasm:

11. Thank goodness we're ONLY 2 MILLION km^2 short!
The graph almost reminds me of the inevitable capital fluctuations of somebody who hits the tables in Vegas with just enough knowledge of the game they're playing to assure that they'll eventually lose their shirt.

I seriously doubt we'll make it back to the point of breaking even vs. the long term this year, or ever again, but right now our "gambler" must be so euphoric he's buying rounds for the house thinking this is the big score.

Not.
