3. How bad are we going to feel if he's having actual health problems?
Or, maybe that's how he'd want us to remember him?

4. His last post was Monday
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=115&topic_id=117660#117893

He hasn't been posting much this month, but it doesn't look like his an ex-parrot quite yet.

7. Nailed to my perch...
...err, I mean desk. There's a limit to my ability to wax lyrical about off-the-chart sea-ice anomolies when I've been staring at a screen for 14 hours, but I should be back to normal soon.

(By "Normal", I do of course mean "Running around in circles screaming with fear and hoping that when the world ends I'll be too drunk to notice".)

Happy days. :)

10. Ahh, but not all parrots are tropical...
...Look at the critically endangered http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kakapo:Kakapo>: Not actually dead, but certainly pining for the Fiords, and known for falling off thier perches every so often and sleeping the day away.

Lovely plumage.

11. Ungh.
See how tired I am? The "Kakapo" is missing from the last post.

I need coffee. :(

12. Now that is an interesting tail, or tale. Does it account for your screen name?

13. Quite so,
although of course the reference is sufficiently obscure that nobody can work it out. Many years ago (on a usenet group far, far away) I had the sigline "pining for the fiords", and somebody with an eye for spelling made the connection, but without that clue people just assume I'm a Python fan.

Which I am, so that's OK.

"The kakapo is a bird out of time. If you look one in its large, round, greeny-brown face, it has a look of serenely innocent incomprehension that makes you want to hug it and tell it that everything will be all right, though you know that it probably will not be." -- Douglas Adams.

15. So am I, funnily enough...
...although I do seem to be stuck here with: A bunch of people who deny there is any problem with the biosphere; another bunch of people who know there is a problem but want to scoop up the cash while there's still time, and; a third bunch of people that think if we clap hard enough, renewables will save us in the nick of time.

This morning, I extracted a dead koekoea from my kitchen - She was killed in the night by one of my cats. Given that I'll have to spend the next ten or so years watching my entire planet die of inane Caldicottesque drivel, I can't help wondering who's better off: At least being eaten by predatory mammals is fairly quick.

:banghead:

16. I was having a very pleasant chat today with someone from New Zealand
on another website about how renewables have saved New Zealand.

From what I understand the situation at the Maui gas field was a non-event, because New Zealand is awash in wind, geothermal and solar energy.

9. I dig that. I should probably spend more time nailed to *my* perch.
Astonishing, but nobody pays me for my witty presence here at E/E.
