Global warming could save lives: skeptic
Thu Oct 4, 2007 2:32pm EDT

By Alister Doyle, Environment Correspondent

OSLO (Reuters) - Global warming could save lives,
a self-styled "Skeptical Environmentalist" said on
Thursday.

Clashing with the U.N. health agency, Danish
statistician Bjorn Lomborg told the Reuters
Environment summit the world should not overlook
benefits of climate change such as the fall in the
number of deaths from icy winters.

"You see a lot about deaths from heatwaves, much
less on avoided deaths," Lomborg said.

"Lomborg is guilty of the bias in selection of
evidence of which he accuses others," said Diarmid
Campbell-Lendrum, a senior WHO scientist and an
author of the study.

2. Lomborg is a statistician, not a climatologist. He has virtually NO
credibility when he opens his mouth about climate change.

3. Too bad the greatest population is in the warmer areas, so they'll die from droughts.
A few far Northerners will benefit, maybe one for every several dozen deaths closer to the Equator. Maybe that's why no one's applauding the consequences of GW.

4. What an ignorant statement
Just the fact that he relays this is the context of just warming shows he is only a mouthpiece. It is about "climate change" and that does also mean harsher winters and the possibility at some point down the line of the Gulf Stream shutting off thus throwing Europe into an ice age. That is also covered in An Inconvenient Truth. It isn't just about the "heat" it is about all of the effects of that contained heat and those effects do include erratic and changing weather patterns regarding temperature, rainfall patterns, etc.

5. Bjorn Lomborg, begging on his knees for dengue or chikungunya . . .
I hope he gets his wish.
