University of Bremen AMSR Update 5 September - Thinning Speeds Up In "Triangle"

Here's what I mean by triangle - draw a line between Svalbard, the Taymyr Peninsula and the North Pole. Just since yesterday, there's been a substantial expansion of melt sign, plus a pretty rapid drop in coverage from around 80 - 90% to fair-sized areas of 75% coverage.

On the other side of the pole, the melt zone at 85N continues to expand.

2. It looks as though the ice spur to the Taimyr is getting ready to go, too.

Lots of 50% in there.

And the NWP is now completely clear - the little blockage that was at the western end for the last few days is gone.
